Mexican police on Tuesday discovered two more bodies of people who could have been killed by feuding drug gangs in the northwest Mexican city of Tijuana.
It brought the number of bodies discovered in 36 hours to 18 in the city on the border with the U.S. state of California, police said. Preliminary investigations have pointed to scuffles between drug gangs, they said.
The police found four bodies in a downtown building on Monday and discovered 12 more in another place later.
All 16 bodies were gagged, their hands tied with plastic tapes and their heads covered with plastic bags.
Forensic examination showed the victims, aged between 25-35, died from gun shot wounds though the bodies bore clear evidence of physical abuse, prosecutors said.
Local media reported that the criminals left provocative messages for an undisclosed drug gang head.
Mexican paper Milenio said in a Tuesday report that Tijuana ranked the third in the five most dangerous Mexican cities and over 150 people have been killed so far this year in attacks or violence related to organized crimes.
