A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit southern and central Chile on Wednesday, but no casualties or damage have been reported so far, the National Emergency Office said.

The quake struck at 13:04 local time (1704 GMT) and shook five regions from Valparaiso in the north to Bio Bio in the south. It also affected the metropolitan regions of O'Higgins and Maule.

The epicenter of the tremor was at a depth of 110 km underground in the Maule region, south of the capital Santiago, said the Seismological Service of the University of Chile.
