A Philippine court on Wednesday sentenced three women and a man to life in prison for illegally possessing more than 500 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as "shabu" by locals, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
Pakungan Talib, Asna Gugo, Aga Ulong and Danny Ulong were ordered by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 16 to pay a collective amount of 1.7 million pesos (about 37,777 U.S. dollars) as compensation, the paper said in an online report released late Wednesday.
The four were arrested during a police raid in Quiapo, the district with dense college and university presence in urban Manila, the report said.
"Shabu" and marijuana are the two most widely used dopes in the Philippines.
