The withdrawal of Japan's two ships supporting the U.S.-led operations in Afghanistan will affect the operations in the war-shattered country, the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said in a statement on Saturday.

"The suspension of Japan's participation in Maritime Interdiction Operation-Operation Enduring Freedom (MIO-OEF), in Afghanistan will negatively impact on the ongoing operations," the statement said.

Japan ended the mission on Thursday as the government failed to secure a deal with the opposition to extend the mission beyond the end of its mandate on Nov. 1.

"We, therefore, hope that Japan will be able to resume its important role in the MIO-OEF at an early date," the statement said, adding that the program was also a source of help that was extended to Pakistan's naval element operating in the area.
