Afghan police backed by the U.S.-led Coalition forces killed 25 Taliban insurgents Saturday in Afghanistan's southern Uruzgan province, said a statement of Afghan Interior Ministry released here on Sunday.

"Police with the support of Coalition forces killed 25 rebels in Deh Rawad district of Uruzgan province on Saturday and seized 13 pieces of weapons," the statement added.

It did not give more details.

Taliban have yet to make any comment.

More than 5,400 people, mostly insurgents, have been killed in militancy and skirmishes so far this year in Afghanistan.
