At least one South Korean pilot was killed early Tuesday morning when two Army helicopters crashed in Inje, 165 km east of Seoul, the military said.

According to the military, the accident happened shortly after two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters took off from a helipad and collided with each other 15 meters off the ground. Both helicopters were badly damaged as they crashed onto the helipad, while debris from the helicopters damaged a vehicle in a nearby parking lot.

Thirteen other soldiers were injured during the accident and were sent to two military hospitals, local media said.

The military said an investigation of the accident is underway.
