Six people suspected to be militants of Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islamia (HuJI) have sneaked into Indian capital New Delhi from neighboring Uttar Pradesh possibly to carry out attacks, local newspaper The Tribune reported Thursday.
Intelligence Bureau inputs to the Delhi Police Wednesday said six people entered Seelampur area of east Delhi on Tuesday and could possibly carry out strikes in the national capital, police sources said.
The six militants traveled in a white car with a fake registration number from Deoband in western Uttar Pradesh to Seelampur area, the sources said.
While one of the passengers traveling in the car was stated to be of African origin, two were believed to be Afghan nationals and the remaining were locals.
A thorough check was carried out in Seelampur. The police put up barricades along all important crossways and a thorough screening of vehicles was conducted. Suspected pedestrians were also being questioned.
The information about sneaking in of the militants comes barely two days after an alert was issued by intelligence agencies that suspected HuJI militants may carry out strikes on or around Dec. 6,the day on which Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992. The Babri Masjid once was a mosque in Uttar Pradesh in northern India.
