At least 20 glaciers in Nepal are facing threat of breaking down anytime due to the climate change, The Himalayan Times reported on Monday.
Continued change in climate has threatened glaciers in Nepal, which may break down anytime, Bishwo Shrestha, a geographer, said on Sunday while addressing a program organized to mark the Climate Change Campaign 2007.
The developed and industrialized nations are responsible for the global climate change and their activities are affecting the existence of other countries, he said.
President of the National Lake Development Board Khagaraj Adhikari said the industrialized nations, which have signed the Kyoto Protocol of the Framework Convention on Climate Change, are violating the international agreement and they should be fined for that.
The greenhouse gases emitted by the industries in the developed countries are contributing to rapid climate change, he said.
Vice-chancellor of Pokhara University Keshar Jung Baral said that the nations responsible for causing pollution need to pay compensation to other nations which are suffering due to their activities.
