The Pakistani government has issued special instructions to the provinces and security apparatus to redouble their vigilance to ward off the grave threat of terrorism.
At a news briefing here Tuesday, Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said that the provinces and security apparatus had been asked to leave no scope for the terrorists to hit even soft targets.
Monday's suicide attack on a school vehicle at Kamra, a town some 70 kms northwest of the capital Islamabad, is another grim reminder of the ugly design of the perpetrators to subvert the democratic process, he said.
Due to the comprehensive security measures taken by the law enforcement agencies throughout Pakistan, Cheema said, the anti-state elements are becoming increasingly desperate in their mad pursuit.
He said that the security forces had cleared the Swat region in northwestern Pakistan of extremists and militants who were now on the run.
Rebel leader Maulana Fazlullah and a handful of his hardcore followers are confined in the remote pockets where they are being chased and will be flushed out soon, he added.
He said that the law and order situation in Balochistan had also considerably improved.
"Most of the (illegal) Ferrari camps have been destroyed. However, sporadic acts of terrorism by anti-state elements do occur here and there," he said.
