Vietnam will, in 2008, continue to reinforce and strengthen relations with other countries in substantial, effective and stable manners, while promoting its role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, a spokesman for foreign ministry said Thursday.
Next year, Vietnam will actively make contributions to international forums, deal with global affairs, participate more deeply and fully in international economic entities and sub-regional economic arrangements, the country's Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung said at a regular press briefing.
Vietnam is to develop economic diplomacy and improve investment environment to attract stronger foreign investment, expand commodity and labor export markets, and welcome more foreign tourists. The country will also keep on completing border demarcation with neighboring countries as schedule, while settling issues relating to land border and territorial waters, he said, noting that it advocates solving border disputes through peaceful negotiations.
Vietnam will, in 2008, continue to well implement polices on overseas Vietnamese, such as simplifying entry-exit procedures, facilitating business environment, creating favorable conditions for them to buy real estates, and reinforcing national unity.
In 2007, Vietnam has reaped many important diplomacy achievements, many of which have come from visits of Vietnamese top leaders to different countries, Dung said.
Vietnam has been successful in multilateral diplomacy: it was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council with high votes, which expresses the international community's recognition for Vietnam's successful renewal policy and its capacity of making contributions to global affairs, he said, adding Vietnam has broadened and deepened relations with countries in different continents, including such neighboring countries as China and Laos, and the United States and Russia.
