Thailand wanted to buy gas from oil-and-gas field Natuna in Indonesia, Indonesian Minister of Mines and Energy Purnomo Yusgfiantoro said Thursday.

The minister said that both countries had signed an agreement on energy cooperation in Thailand recently.

"They (Thailand) want to take part, should Natuna D-Alpha be developed," Purnomo told reporters at the State Palace here.

He said that the details of the energy cooperation plan would be discussed further by the Indonesian stated-owned oil-and-gas company Pertamina and Thailand's only fully integrated gas company the Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT).

"Now we have had a legal umbrella, let Pertamina and the PTT follow it up," said Purnomo.

The Natuna D-Alpha block has about 222 trillion cubic feet (about 6.2 trillion cubic meters) of gas reserves, of which about 46 trillion cubic feet (about 1.3 trillion cubic meters) is thought to be commercially recoverable.

The oil and gas field, located some 1,100 km north of Jakarta, accounts for about a quarter of Indonesia's total commercially recoverable gas reserves.

Purnomo has said that the block contains about 70 percent carbon dioxide, still too high, making it expensive to develop and difficult to sell.
