The Nepali government will hold a wider donors meeting in the third week of February, 2008, to inform donors about the latest situation in the country and mobilize funds for implementing the three-year interim plan.
According to The Kathmandu Post Friday's report, the meeting will be held on February 20-22, said an official at the Ministry of Finance.
During the meeting, the government would make presentations of the three-year interim plan it recently endorsed. It would also inform donors about the economic reforms, the peace process and achievements made so far, in order to convince donors to make fresh assistance commitments.
Given that the internal resources mobilized are just more than the regular expenses, Nepal heavily depends on foreign assistance for the implementation of the development programs, according to the daily.
For the interim plan, the government has set a target to spend 511 billion Nepali rupees (about 8 billion U.S. dollars) for implementing various development activities over the next three years.
It requires 60 percent foreign assistance to meet this financial requirement. Apart from the interim plan, issues such as better coordination between donor agencies and aid effectiveness would also be discussed during the meeting, said the report.
