An earthquake at magnitude 5.3 rocked eastern part of Indonesia on Wednesday. There is no report of damages or casualty, meteorology agency said.
The quake, 31 km beneath the earth's crust, occurred at 15:01 Jakarta time (0601 GMT) with epicenter at 150 km northwest Manado, capital of North Sulawesi province an official of the agency said.
In 2004, over 170,000 people were dead in Aceh province in northern tip of Sumatra Island after a tsunami triggered by a powerful quake devastated coastal areas of the province and other countries in southeast Asia.
Indonesia is located at a vulnerable zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire," where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet and cause frequent volcanic movements. Source:Xinhua
