The Pakistani Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said on Thursday that the country was confronted with difficult challenges.
Talking to the 105th Corps Commanders Conference at General Headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, Kayani said, "the only way our country can thwart and defeat all kinds of threats is through a comprehensive national effort, where all segments of the society play their rightful role."
With regard to the security environment, Kayani said it was the harmonization of socio-political, administrative and military strategies that would usher in an environment of peace and stability in the long term.
"Training and professional pursuits must remain our prime focus to enhance operational preparedness so that we attain the highest standards of capability at all levels to meet challenges of internal and external threat in tandem with other elements of national power," Kayani said when talking of the vision of the army.
Kayani said that the army would spare no effort in defending the country.
This was the first conference chaired by the Kayani after he assumed the office as Chief of Army Staff late October when President Pervez Musharraf relinquished the post.
