The team of detectives from Scotland Yard on Saturday afternoon arrived at the Liaqat Bagh park in Rawalpindi, the site of former prime minister and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto's assassination nine days earlier.

"The road leading to the park has been corded off and the experts arrived here just now," Xinhua correspondent at the scene said, adding that reporters were not allowed to approach the detectives, who had made no comments on the case.

The park were evacuated ahead of the arrival of the Scotland Yard team and the public were not allowed to enter the park.

Bhutto, main opposition leader and former prime minister for two times, were assassinated in a gun and bomb suicide attack on Dec. 27 at Liaqat Bagh after addressing a gathering of Pakistan People's Party supporters in a bullet-proof vehicle.

The government had said she died fracturing her skull against the frame of the open sun roof as she tried to duck, account rejected by leading figures in Bhutto's party as lies.

Some accused "elements in the government" of having a hand in the assassination, which president Pervez Musharraf vehemently denied by arguing that the government had nothing to gain from it.

Family members of Bhutto had demanded an international investigation under the supervision of the United Nations, which was ruled out by the Pakistani government.

Musharraf, however, announced on Wednesday that expertise were necessary to dispel rumors around Bhutto's death and that Pakistani authorities had asked Scotland Yard for assistance.

The six-member team from Scotland Yard, comprising forensic and technical experts, arrived in Islamabad on Friday and examined the bullet-proof vehicle that carried Bhutto.

They were expected to visit Rawalpindi General hospital later on Saturday, where Bhutto passed away after inflicting lethal injuries at the suicide attack at the Liaqat Bagh park.

In a related development, Musharraf said Saturday the Scotland Yard team would be provided maximum support and information to carry out the investigation independently.
