Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said Saturday the general elections, which had been rescheduled for Feb. 18, would not be further put off.

There will be no further postponement of the national and provincial parliamentary elections, which were originally planned for Jan. 8, local channel Dawn News quoted Musharraf as saying.

The remarks came amid accusations from certain oppositions members that the government had postponed the elections to avoid votes going to opposition candidates due to emotional reasons.
