Suspected militants fired rockets at a fort of security forces in northwestern Pakistan's tribal region, killing one soldier, the News Network International (NNI) news agency reported on Tuesday.
Unidentified armed men fired rockets and opened fire with automatic weapons at a fort of security forces in South Waziristanon Monday night, killing one soldier, the NNI quoted officials as saying.
Three other soldiers were also injured in the attack and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police in Tank city of South Waziristan said that unidentified men fired several rockets at the city Monday night which exploded with huge bangs. There was no report of casualties.
Meanwhile, suspected militants kidnapped three soldiers from Sarokey area of South Waziristan, who were traveling in a private car.
Masked armed men on Tuesday forced the soldiers from Waziristan Scouts Force to come out of the car and took them to an undisclosed location later.
The authorities blocked roads for traffic to foil the attempt of the suspects to shift the soldiers out of the tribal region.
Caretaker Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz Khan said that the security forces had planned a major operation against Baitullah Mehsood, a militant leader in South Waziristan.
President Pervez Musharraf has blamed Baitullah Mehsood for the assassination of Benazir Bhutto as well as recruiting suicide bombers. However, a spokesman for Baitullah Mehsood denied any involvement in Bhutto's killing. Source:Xinhua
