New advisers of Bangladesh military-backed caretaker government are likely to be sworn-in by President Iajuddin Ahmed Wednesday following the resignation of four advisors Tuesday.
Chief Advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim was quoted by private news agency UNB as saying that the chief advisor's office sent all the four resignation letters to the President's office Tuesday.
Law and Information Advisor Barrister Mainul Hosein, Energy and Food Advisor Tapan Chowdhury, Health Advisor Maj Gen (retd) Matiur Rahman and Industry Advisor Geeteara Shafia Chowdhury resigned Tuesday afternoon.
The four advisers told reporters separately that they tendered their resignations, as the government desired.
On Dec. 26, Education and Cultural Affairs Advisor Dr Ayub Quadri resigned in the wake of theft of Paris-bound Bangladesh artifacts scandal.
The press secretary however could not say whether all the five advisors will be sworn-in following the vacancy created by the resignations.
The resignations came on the eve of the Fakruddin Ahmed's caretaker government completes one year in office.
The incumbent caretaker government assumed the office on Jan. 12 last year under the state of emergency imposed one day before to quell political unrest over the abortive parliamentary elections scheduled in the month.
