The Cabinet of Thailand on Tuesday agreed to extend an emergency decree in the three southernmost provinces plagued by violence for three more months, starting from Jan. 20.
A government spokesman said the government decided to extend the decree in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat Provinces because of the ongoing unrest.
The extension of the decree will be effective from Jan. 20.
The decision came after 37 people were injured in a bomb blast that took place on Tuesday morning in Yala province. Six of them were in critical condition.
A day before, all eight soldiers of an army patrol team were also killed by insurgents during gunfire exchange. One of the victims was beheaded.
The emergency decree was firstly implemented since July 2005 and extended several times until now.
