A man who worked as a military informant was shot dead in a drive-by shooting in Thailand's far southern province Pattani Monday morning, police said.
Abdulloh Toh-adam, 40, was riding his motorcycle on the Pattan-Yala Road in Ban Saning village in the provincial seat to downtown at 8:30 a.m. (0130 GMT) when he was shot dead by a man on the pillion of a motorcycle, according to a report by news network TheNation.
Police said the victim was an informant for military intelligence officials.
The latest wave of insurgent violence that troubled Thailand's three southernmost provinces -- Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani, have killed over 2,800 people since it resurrected in the region, which was put under an emergency rule since 2005.
Besides security forces, many of the civilian victims were locals who insurgents believe have worked for the government and the military.
The latest killing in Pattani happened on the same day that Thailand's Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, Army Commander-in-Chief Gen. Anupong Paochinda and Police Commissioner-General Seripisut Temiyavej visited the nearby province Yala to be briefed on the latest situation in the restive deep south. Source: Xinhua
