Suspected insurgents in Thailand's southernmost province of Narathiwat on Monday detonated a roadside bomb and then launched gun attacks, injuring eight soldiers of a security patrol team.
The soldiers were ambushed as they were on patrol duty along the railway tracks in Rueso district, according to the Bangkok Post's web news.
Officials said the attackers triggered the bomb via remote control device while hiding in a nearby orchard. The blast injured six soldiers. The suspected insurgents then shot and injured another two officers with M-16 rifles following the explosion, before fleeing into the dense forest.
The wounded were sent to hospital for treatment.
