Unknown armed men kidnapped an American woman along with her local driver in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province Saturday, provincial governor Assadullah Khalid said.
"It was 8 a.m. local time when unidentified gunmen abducted Sydney Liza, an American national along with her Afghan driver in sixth precinct of Kandahar city this morning," Khalid told Xinhua.
Working for a non-governmental organization, the woman had been supporting Afghans in the fields of agriculture and education over the past few years in Kandahar, the birthplace of Taliban outfit, Khalid added
The provincial governor also added that efforts have been going on to locate and ensure the safe release of the lady and her driver.
