A fire broke out at Sydney's Broadway shopping center early Tuesday afternoon, and people inside were evacuated.
Fire Brigade Superintendent Craig Brierley said the fire started when the sub-station in the shopping center exploded.
"Two elevators were stuck. We freed one lot (of people), we're working on the other one," he said.
Twelve brigades and auxiliary units were summoned to fight the fire, and police and ambulance workers were also called, the Australian Associated Press reported.
Flames were seen in a laneway between the two main blocks of the center.
New South Wales Ambulance said its crews were at the scene but there were no immediate reports of injuries. Apart from the elevator, the entire center was evacuated and there did not appear to be any injuries, he said.
The fire appeared to have been contained by 2:45 p.m. (0445 GMT), one hour after the fire started.
Supt. Brierley said the second lift has been cleared and there were no injuries. Source: Xinhua
