New Zealand and the Cook Islands will have stronger links on social policy and services following the signing of a cooperation arrangement in wellinton on Friday.
The move would see New Zealand's Ministry of Social Development offer a range of support to the Cook Islands Ministry of Internal Affairs and Social Services over the next three years.
Some of the services offered include support for the development of policy on key issues including children and families, welfare services, older people, non-governmental organizations and labor.
Chief Executive of New Zealand's Ministry of Social Development Peter Hughes said the arrangement offers benefits to both organizations.
Secretary of the Cook Islands Ministry, Tamari'i Tutangata, echoed that sentiment.
New Zealand's Pacific Island Affairs Minister and Social Development and Employment Associate Minister Luamanuvao Winnie Laban welcomed the signing of the cooperation agreement.
"The formal agreement between the two organizations will see the sharing of information, expertise and resources. I'm very pleased that we are able to support our Cook Island cousins and I'm confident that the arrangement will provide real benefits to both organizations," said Laban. Source: Xinhua
