Afghan National Army, accompanied by the U.S.-led Coalition forces, detained 11 suspected insurgents, found 1,000 pounds of heroin and destroyed a weapons cache in southern province of Helmand on Wednesday, the Coalition said.
The forces conducted operations to "establish security, disrupt insurgent activity and deny enemy sanctuary" in an area north of the city of Musa Qala, the military said in a statement released here.
In another statement issued earlier Wednesday, the Coalition said Afghan forces backed by the Coalition forces also detained 11suspected Taliban militants from Dey Chopan district of Zabul province in the south.
The southern provinces of Helmand, Uruzgan and Kandahar have been regarded as the hotbed of Taliban militants in the war-ravaged Afghanistan. Source: Xinhua
