Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala hosted a reception at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in capital Kathmandu to mark the 58th National Democracy Day on Tuesday.

During the reception, the prime minister talked with ministers, foreign diplomats and high ranking officials of the country.

Talking to the media persons during the reception, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula assured that the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections will take place on the scheduled date on April 10.

Minister Sitaula said that talks are underway with various parties to solve the crisis taking place in southern Terai plains of the country which will ensure favorable atmosphere for the elections.

Life across the Terai districts remains tense for the last six days due to the indefinite strike called by the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) and the Federal Republican National Front.

Local administrations offices in different cities of southern Nepal issued curfew orders due to worsening situation as the agitating Madhesi groups and security forces clashed in course of the general strike killing at least one person and injuring hundreds.

Frequent strikes in the restive Terai have thrown the twice-deferred Constituent Assembly (CA) elections into uncertainty.

Madhesi people are the Nepalese mainly living in south Nepal's Terai plains, who are socio-culturally close to the bordering Indians. Madhesi movement is protesting for political interest satisfied before the CA elections slated on April 10.
