Nepal's Yeti Airlines has launched a clean up campaign in Lukla, the entrance to the world's tallest peak -- Mt. Qomolangma, the National News Agency RSS reported on Tuesday.
The airlines said the campaign aims at raising awareness for environmental balance and biodiversity conservation in Khumbu area at a time when more and more mountaineers and trekkers are visiting the area in eastern Nepal.
As part of the campaign, the airlines will collect 17,000 kg of empty beer bottles and other garbage and bring them to the capital Kathmandu for reuse.
The airlines aims to spend around 1 million Nepali rupees (some 15,870 U.S. dollars) for the campaign.
Manager of the airlines Binaya Shakya said the airlines has been conducting clean up campaign in association with local non-governmental organizations at the beginning of summer season every year. Source: Xinhua
