Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) will not bar the religion-based political parties of the country in the upcoming general election although the other parties have been demanding to do that.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (ret) Shakhawat Hossaintold reporters on Wednesday, "we are not going to bar the religion-based political parties from the election as religion-based politics is existing across the world."
Different political parties have been demanding of the EC not register the religion-based political parties making way for them contesting the election.
Election commission has made it compulsory that the political parties to contest elections must have registration of the EC.
Bangladesh's 9th parliamentary election due on Jan. 23 last year was postponed after months of deadly protests by opposition parties over the electoral system.
