Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Thursday met with visiting German Deputy Federal Chancellor and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The two leaders welcomed the strong relations between the two countries, and noted the growing number of German companies based in Singapore, as well as the increasing research and development (R&D) cooperation among research institutions and universities between the two countries, according to a statement issued by Singapore's Foreign Ministry.
They exchanged views on global and regional issues, including developments in China, Southeast Asia and Europe.
Singapore's founding father, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, also held talks with Steinmeier on several issues including developments in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)and the European Union, and the challenges of regional integration, said the statement.
Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo met and discussed with his German counterpart bilateral ties and cooperation and talked about the Kosovo and Myanmar situation.
Singapore is the second leg of the German foreign minister's five-day southeast Asian trip which started from Tuesday. He had visited Indonesia, and his next stop is Vietnam. Source: Xinhua
