Pakistan People's Party (PPP), which won the most votes in the Feb. 18 general elections, is likely to name the country's next prime minister on Thursday, the Pakistan's Daily Times reported Monday.
According to the report, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari will chair a parliamentarian meeting of the party Thursday in Islamabad to endorse the PPP Central Executive Committee's (CEC) nominee for the PM's office.
There are four candidates, that is, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yousaf Raza Gillani and Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, under the PPP's consideration for the head of next government.
The Pakistani government is expected to announce the date of the National Assembly session by Thursday, at which the parliament speaker and new prime minister will be elected.
The PPP won the most votes in the Feb. 18 elections and will form a coalition government with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
