Afghan troops backed by NATO forces have killed and injured more than 24 Taliban militants in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, a press release of Afghan defense ministry said Monday.
"In an operation launched in Sangin district on Sunday more than two dozens of rebels had been killed and injured," the press release said.
However, it did not give the exact figure of the casualties.
The troops also destroyed an ammunition depot of the insurgents during the operation, said the release.
There were no casualties on the side of the government and NATO troops, according to the release. However, Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
Violence and conflicts had claimed more than 6,000 lives in 2007, while so far this year more than 200 mostly civilians have lost their lives in Taliban-related violence and conflicts in the war-battered central Asian state. Source: Xinhua/Agencies
