The Air Force in Sri Lanka bombed a communication base of Tamil Tigers rebels in the north on Monday and totally destroyed it, said the military.
Officials from the Media Center for National Security said Air Force fighter jets pounded a communication base with transmitting tower of the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) in Kulamurippu area of the Mullaittivu district around 12:45 p.m (0715 GMT).
Fighter pilots confirmed that the target was accurately hit and destroyed, said the officials.
Officials also said the security forces launched an attack targeting LTTE bunker defenses in Navathkulam of the Vavuniya district Monday afternoon, killing two LTTE rebels.
Meanwhile, the military said 21 LTTE rebels were killed on Sunday in four separated clashes in the northern districts of Vavuniya and Welioya.
Two soldiers were killed and 10 sustained injuries in the battle in Welioya, officials said.
Government troops and the LTTE are currently engaged in fierce battles in the north after the Easter Province was recaptured by the government in July last year.
The LTTE has been fighting the troops since the mid-1980s to carve out a separate homeland for the Tamil minority in the north and east.
