Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will visit the United States on March 28 to hold his first official meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush.
A government spokesman confirmed on Tuesday that Rudd would travel to Washington later this month.
Rudd's trip to the White House will be part of his first major multi-country visit since he became prime minister last November.
Bush spokesman Gordon Johndroe said in a statement that Bush and Rudd talked by phone Tuesday morning, discussing Iraq, Afghanistan, April's NATO summit and East Asian regional security, the Australian Associated Press reported.
"President Bush told Prime Minister Rudd he looks forward to welcoming him to the White House on Friday, March 28th, for a meeting and lunch," the spokesman said.
Rudd's trip is expected to include talks in China as well as the NATO summit in the Romanian capital of Bucharest in early April, where the Afghanistan deployment will be discussed, the report said. Source:Xinhua
