The Sri Lankan Air Force Tuesday launched air raid on three targets of Tamil Tiger rebels in the north as the fighting between government troops and rebels have been escalated, said the military.
Officials from the Media Center for National Security said the Air Force bombed an LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) military base and an underground storage facility for artillery guns in the Kilinochchi district at 12 p.m. (0630 GMT) and 2:25 p.m. (0855 GMT) respectively.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Air force pounded an LTTE artillery gun position in the Jaffna peninsula.
Defense officials said all the three targets were preciously hit and destroyed.
The military also said they took six LTTE positions and killed 12 rebels in the Mannar district.
Government troops and the LTTE are currently engaged in fierce battles in the north after the Easter Province was recaptured by the government in July last year.
The LTTE has been fighting the government since the mid-1980s to carve out a separate homeland for the Tamil minority in the north and east.
