An earthquake with magnitude of 5.6 rocked West Sumatra province, of Sumatra Island on Thursday, no report of damages or casualties, the meteorology agency said.
The quake struck at 10:36 Jakarta time (0336GMT) with epicenter at 153 kilometers southwest Painan town of the province and at 30 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.
Early this morning, a powerful earthquake with magnitude of 6.4rocked North Maluku province in eastern parts of Indonesia on Thursday morning, but also no report of damages or casualties.
The quake struck at 08:22 Jakarta time (0122GMT) with epicenter at 216 kilometers northeast Ternate of the province and at 105 kilometers under ocean floor, an official of the agency Anas Fauzitold Xinhua.
In 2004, over 170,000 people were dead in Aceh province in northern tip of Sumatra Island after a tsunami triggered by a powerful quake devastated coastal areas of the province and others countries in southeast Asia.
Indonesia is laid at a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that cause frequent volcanic movements.
