Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak Saturday hoped that more voters could go to voting stations to exercise their rights.
The election process has so far been going on smoothly and generally, "the weather is good for voters", he said in his constituency at Pekan, the state of Pahang.
The current 32 percent voter turnout was not satisfied and should be higher, he told local television stations.
The Malaysian Election Commission Chairman Rahid Abdul Rahman said earlier on Saturday that some 32 percent of the 10.92 million voters had cast their votes as of noon on the day.
He called on the public to go to the polling stations and cast their ballots before the 5:00 p.m. closing time of polling stations.
Najib, accompanied by his wife Rosmah Mansor and his younger brother Mohd Nazir Tun Razak, cast his votes at a polling station in the Pekan parliamentary constituency earlier Saturday.
He said it was generally satisfied with the campaign efforts made by the candidates and the Barisan Nasional election machinery.
He also indicated that some incidents caused by opposition supporters in the state of Terrengganu were to scare voters away, which ran contrary to the principles of democracy. Source: Xinhua
