Representatives of the 21-member Asia Pacific Economic Forum (APEC) agreed to boost renewable energy technology and research projects at the 35th APEC Energy Working Group meeting, Peru's Mines and Energy Ministry (MEM) said Sunday.
Some 105 officials met in Iquitos, capital of northern Peruvian province of Loreto, on March 3-7. The MEM said it had presented hydroelectric, wind power and geothermal energy projects at the meeting.
Another topic discussed was the diversification of energy sources to prevent high international energy prices from having such serious consequences for economies such as Peru.
Since its inception in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence among Asia-Pacific economies, APEC has become a major regional forum acting as the primary regional vehicle for promoting open trade and economic and technical cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. Source: Xinhua
