Fifteen people were killed and 40 others injured in a bus crash in India's northwest state Panjabon Tuesday evening, police said Wednesday.

The accident occurred when the bus turned turtle after ramming into the tree, the police was cited by the Press Trust of India.

At least nine persons, including five women, were killed on the spot.

The injured were rushed to the hospital where six persons succumbed to their injuries. However, a three-year -old child escaped unhurt in the mishap, police said.

The condition of about six injured was reported to be serious.
