A suicide attacker blew himself up near the convoy of Canadian troops Wednesday morning in southern Afghan city of Kandahar, killing one civilian and wounding three others, officials said.

Fraser Clark, the spokesman of Canadian Provincial Reconstruction Team told Xinhua that it occurred at around 10 a.m.(GMT 0530) when a suicide attacker drove his car laden with explosive material and blew it up close to the convoy of Canadian troops.

"One civilian was killed and the other was injured in the explosion," Clark said. "One Humvee vehicle of the convoy was destroyed."

Meanwhile, a local police officer from the spot said the driver of a passing truck was killed, and four other people were wounded, including two Canadian troops.

Taliban insurgents have yet to make any comments so far.

Conflicts and Taliban-related violence claimed around 8,000 lives last year, according to a latest-released UN figure.

Over 200 people have been killed mostly in suicide attacks and roadside bombings this year across the war-torn country, where the anti-government militants have vowed to intensify their guerrilla-style attacks.
