The Nepali Election Commission (EC) Sunday urged the government to further improve law and order situation for the April 10 Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
Stating that the souring relations between the political parties have affected the environment for holding the polls, the EC also underscored the need to improve relations among the parties.
A delegation of Election Office bearers including Chief Election Commissioner Bhojraj Prokhrel called on Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Sunday morning to take initiatives to improve security situation in order to make the environment for the CA polls conducive.
Emerging from the meeting held at Koirala's official residence in Kathmandu, Election Commissioner Nil Kantha Uprety informed that they urged the PM to resolve some impediments prevalent in few Terai districts in southern Nepal "through dialogue or legal treatment" though the law and order situation has been improving in the districts.
The EC officials voiced concern over the frequent strikes, targeting at the crucial polls, called by various disgruntled groups in the Terai region and urged the PM to resolve the problems inviting them for dialogue.
The commissioners also urged to run the state-owned media fairly, not to cut electricity power during election hours and to immediately send employees in necessary districts.
Likewise, the PM informed that the government was actively engaged to bring the disgruntled groups to the talks table.
Koirala also committed to "leave no stone unturned" to boost up the security situation for the CA polls.
