Strengthening friendly cooperation between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Russia would conform to the desire and interests of the two peoples and benefit world peace and security, the official Rodong Sinmun newspaper said Monday.

The agreement on economic and cultural cooperation signed 59 years ago between the DPRK and Russia has laid the foundation for the development of bilateral relations, the newspaper said in an article.

The exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in economic and cultural fields have been expanded and deepened in recent years, it said.

It also said the two countries are cooperating in efforts to ensure regional stability and peace, and achieve a fair settlement of major international issues.
