The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday accused the Japanese government of pursuing the same hostile policy as the former government toward Chongryong, the biggest pro-Pyongyang organization in Japan.
"This is aimed at destroying Chongryon, impairing the authority and dignity of the DPRK and stoking bitterness toward Chongryon and the DPRK in Japanese society and, at the same time, creating an environment for reinvasion," said a commentary carried by the official Rodong Sinmun newspaper.
The building and land owned by Chongryon were due to be auctioned off at the request of Japan's government-affiliated Resolution and Collection Corp., which took over bad debts from a collapsed Pyongyang-linked credit union in Osaka. The credit union held a mortgage on the building and the land.
The commentary said the Fukuda government's speech about "normalized Japan-DPRK relations" is nothing but hypocrisy and the situation is getting all the more serious and complicated.
