The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will hold its first National Art Festival from April 10-18 to commemorate the birthday of the country's founding father Kim Il Sung, the official news agency KCNA reported Monday.
This year's festival is new in form and fairly large in scale, and preparations are well underway, an official from the event's organizing committee told KCNA.
The festival will bring together national and local professional art troupes, as well as factory and office workers, and peasants, KCNA reported.
April 15 is the birthday of Kim Il Sung and is observed as "the Day of the Sun" in the DPRK.
A festival named "April Spring Friendship Art Festival" has been held annually since 1982 to celebrate the occasion.
From this year on, the April Spring Friendship Art Festival will be made a biennial event and held in turn with the National Art Festival. Source:Xinhua
