The Nepali government has invited U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for a visit during the April 10 Constituent Assembly polls, local media reported on Tuesday.

A leading website, nepalnews.com, quoted Nepal's permanent representative to U.N. Madhu Raman Acharya as saying that he had handed over the invitation letter to Ban recently.

Acharya said the top U.N. official was positive about visiting Nepal but no date has been fixed for his tour. It is not sure whether he will visit as an observer during the polls.

Possibilities are that Ban might also visit to inaugurate the regional office of disarmament in Kathmandu or during the function to be organized on the occasion of golden jubilee celebration of the Nepal's military contribution to U.N. peace keeping mission.

According to the website, former United States president Jimmy Carter is scheduled to visit Nepal as an election observer.
