Five Taliban insurgents were killedin Afghanistan's southern Uruzgan province on Wednesday, according to provincial police chief Juma Gul Humat.
"The clash took place when Taliban insurgents attacked a convoy of trucks supplying logistic items to international troops based in the province," he said.
"The convoy was moving towards Khas Uruzgan district when came under Taliban attack and police accompanying the convoy returned fire killing five insurgents on the spot," Humat told Xinhua. He also said that three policemen were injured in the firefight.
Earlier on the day eight civilians and one police were killed in Taliban-related activities in the neighboring Helmand province.
Taliban related-violence and conflicts left more than 8,000people dead in Afghanistan while so far this year nearly 300people mostly civilians have lost their lives in the ongoing militancy in the country. Source:Xinhua
