At least 13 people are missing after a passenger boat sank off the south coast of the Philippines, online edition of Philippine Daily Inquirer reported Friday.

Quoting local unidentified reports, the paper said the boat, with 14 passengers on board, "got into trouble with huge waves" when it capsized off the coast of Sarangani island of the Davao del Sur province.

Local police officials said authorities were still scouring thearea to determine if there were any other survivors.

A Philippine Coast Guard spokesman in Manila has not yet confirmed the missing upon a Xinhua request of the mishap.
