Thailand's Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Anupong Paochinda assured the public on Saturday there will not be another coup by the army.

Anupong said the army serves the King, the nation and the people, and will not get involved in politics.

On rumors about another coup d'etat, he said he did not know who circulates the rumors so he cannot assess the situation now.

He added that political problems should be used by using political means, and violence would do no good to any parties.

Thailand's Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said on Friday he had been warned that conspirators were planning to trigger unrest to pave the way for another coup.

Samak, who is also the Defense Minister, reportedly received a note pointing to the possibility of a coup.

According to Samak, the group pushing for another coup was not connected to the military but was trying to trigger unrest that could be claimed as a condition for another putsch.

However, Samak said he was not concerned because the conditions that would allow for another coup were not right.
