A strong earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale hit seas near Philippine Islands Region at 6:43 a.m. (1043 GMT) Saturday, according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory.
The epicenter was initially determined to be 20.2 degrees north latitude and 121.8 degrees east longitude, about 260 km north- northeast of Laoag, Philippines.
