At least three workers of a steel mill were killed and 15 others wounded in a boiler explosion early on Monday in Narayanganj district of Bangladesh, 16 km east of capital Dhaka, police said.
When contacted by phone, the local police station confirmed the incident but could not give details as the on-duty officer replaced the night shift officer.

The death toll might increase as rescue operation at night was suspended due to darkness, one worker told private television channel ATN Nonday morning.

The worker said the explosion happened with loud bang after Sunday midnight. He said he geared sounds of three explosions that plunged the factory into darkness, hampering rescue operation.

Fire Service rescuers found three bodies of workers and rescued15 wounded. The wounded were sent to different hospitals and clinics of Narayanganj.

The worker said the factory was reopened two months ago after along closure. Its machines were very old and defective.
