Two soldiers from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were killed on Sunday in an explosion while committing a routine patrol in southern Afghanistan, said an ISAF statement released here on Monday.
"The two soldiers were airlifted to a medical facility and one soldier was pronounced dead on arrival and the other died subsequently," the statement said.
In accordance with ISAF policy, the nationalities of casualties are not released until national next of kin have been notified.
Soldiers mostly form U.S., Britain and Canada have been being deployed in the volatile southern Afghanistan for fighting militants and helping with reconstruction.
Conflicts and Taliban-related violence have left more than 300 people dead so far this year in war-torn Afghanistan, where Taliban militants recently have vowed to launch the "Spring offensive" to intensify their guerrilla-style attacks on national army and foreign troops. Source:Xinhua
